Sizing
Sizing or size
is any one of numerous substances is i.e. applied to textiles. To act as a
protective filler or glaze. It is essential to warp yarn where the strength of
warp is low or hairness of yarn is high The sizing reduces the breakage of yam
and thus production stops on weaving machine reduces. The amount of size
material added on the yarn surface is called size take-up percentage
FUNCTIONS OF SIZE INGREDIENTS
Adhesive:
(a) To improve strength
(b) To increase smoothness
(c) To increase elasticity and stiffness.
(d) Reduce extension percentage
(c) Impart adhesion
2. Lubricant
or softener:
(a) To make the yarn soft and slippery

anti-mildew agent;
(a) To prevent mildew formation
(b) To preserve size material for a long time
(c) To help to store the sized yarn
